FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT DOES VISION 16 PROVIDE IN TERMS OF ROOM FURNISHING, LAUNDRY, AND STORAGE?

17TH AVE HOUSE (MEN’S HOUSE):

Rooms are furnished with regular twin-sized beds and closet space. A desk(s), desk chair(s), lighting fixture, TV, rug, dresser/cabinet, and couch are all items that you should coordinate with your roommates prior to moving in.

We have a room in the basement to store bikes, skis, snowboards, and any other outdoor equipment, but space is limited. Please bring a lock to secure your belongings in the storage room.

Coin-operated washers and dryers are provided for your use. The combined price to wash and dry each load is $1.75.

WOMEN’S HOUSES:

Rooms are furnished with a regular twin-sized bed, a closet, and a personal desk. A desk chair, lighting fixture, rug, and small storage containers/cabinets are also recommended. There is little to no space to store bikes, skis, snowboards, or any other outdoor equipment, so you will likely have to store these items in your bedroom. Coin-operated washers and dryers are provided for your use. The combined price to wash and dry each load is $1.75.

WHAT ABOUT PARKING?

17TH AVE HOUSE (MEN’S HOUSE):

There is a Zone 6 parking permit available to residents of the Ave House that costs $95 per year. To be eligible for the permit, your vehicle must be registered in your name and your driver’s license must list the Ave House as your home address. To apply for the permit, you can go to the Seattle Services Portal to create and account and begin your application. This can be a complicated process, so we recommend waiting to apply until you are moved into the house and get help from other Ave guys. To avoid being ticketed in Zone 6, you can park on 16th, 17th, or 18th Avenue NE anywhere south of NE 50th Street for free.

WOMEN’S HOUSES:

Each women’s house has a few parking spots onsite that are available for rent ($180/quarter). The spots are decided each quarter by a random drawing. We recommend you not bring a car unless it is necessary. If you do not get an onsite parking spot and still need to have a car, you can park anywhere on 16th, 17th, or 18th Avenue NE anywhere south of NE 50th Street for free.

WHAT ABOUT HOUSE, ROOMS, AND ROOMMATE CHOICE?

17TH AVE HOUSE (MEN’S HOUSE):

For your first year in the Ave House, the house presidents will assign which room you will be in. There will be 2-6 people in each room.

WOMEN’S HOUSES:

Your house placement (either Soho, Noho, or Trio) will be determined upon your acceptance into Vision 16. For your first year, the presidents will assign which room you will be in. After the fall quarter, you will switch rooms and remain in your new room for the winter and spring quarters. During this transition, you will have the opportunity to give suggestions for your roommate and room. We cannot guarantee you will be given your first choice.

HOW DOES FOOD WORK?

17TH AVE HOUSE (MEN’S HOUSE):

Vision 16 will provide a standard meal plan to all residents of the Ave House. This includes meals prepared by our wonderful chef, Megan, for lunch and dinner Monday through Friday. Eggs, bacon, milk, cereal, bread, fruit, and other condiments are readily available for residents to use for breakfast, weekends, or any other time. Leftovers from each meal are packed and stored in the fridge for use throughout the week and weekend. If you have any questions on this, please contact 17thave@gmail.com.

WOMEN’S HOUSES:

Vision 16 provides the women’s house with a weekly budget for food to be purchased from Costco and Amazon Fresh. This will allow the house to purchase community food (to prepare breakfast and lunch) and food for planned house dinners cooked by residents Monday through Thursday. You are also provided cabinet space and a separate fridge to store personal food items. We encourage you to speak to your house leadership about any dietary restrictions you have. If you have any questions on this, please contact v16coordinator@gmail.com.

WHAT ARE MY RESPONSIBILITIES AS A VISION 16 RESIDENT?

Your responsibilities as a member of the houses are outlined in the Women’s/Men’s Contract and the Vision 16 Policy Document. You will receive an updated copy of these documents if we can offer you a spot in the houses.

ARE THERE SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES?

Yes! University Vision Leadership (UVL) is an organization separate from Vision 16 that works to support students through scholarships.

Every spring, University Vision Leadership awards need-based scholarships to Vision 16 students who might otherwise be unable to live in the houses. To access the scholarship application, click the button below, you can visit the UVL website here.
